Chicken and Beer
I have read a lot about Chicken and Beer recently which makes me both happy and sad because I happened to frequent the place and brought someone who took the cat out of the bag by letting everyone know about this place very publicly. Happy for the owner, since now I am sure he is more capable of paying the exorbitant first floor rental rate in Forbes Circle and for the staff (why are they all below 5'2? both males and females, check it out if you don't believe me) since they will get more tips. Sad because now there are nights that it is actually packed. Oh well, a far cry from the days when you could meet a nice Korean girl over there since you can see them there in groups (tip).
Anyway, now to the actual place. Chicken and Beer is in the Fort, in Forbes Circle, Forbes Town or the quaint Megaworld place by the golf course view condos with insufficient parking. If you go you could park in several areas, there is parking below the Forbes Town arcade I don't remember the name, below the condo there, is pay parking. You can also park in the lots near the mind museum, or a little further near the Shell gas station or beside the Blue Sapphire building (redundant name) and walk. But I am not sure I would recommend Chicken and Beer as an actual destination, the reason why my buddies and myself hang out there is we work near there. The chicken is very good, (guess what Chicken and Beer's specialty is!) and the beer is reasonable (P350 a bucket of six).
The Korean chicken joint craze is here, I see Bon Chon everywhere, even Alphaland Southgate tower to my surprise, but I feel Chicken and Beer distinguishes itself since it is more of a restaurant than a fastfood place. The food is about 300 pesos a plate of chicken (with tax) there are variants, fried (think Jollibee chicken joy), regular spicy chicken (bon chon) and their "from the homeland spicy" chicken which is really intense so have your beer ready but that is the one to have. Oh, and the Paris chicken is delicious, it is fried and seasoned with soy sauce and ginger I believe, not sure if that is how chicken is served in Paris. The perfect complement to the fiery hot chicken in my opinion is the cream chicken pasta. My friends have this thing for the sausage hot plate, its good, its sausage with cheese and peppers but I find the sausage quantities insufficient so I don't recommend it.
There isn't much more to say, they serve local beer by the bucket, the pulutan is the chicken (best), you can have a nice meal there. The interesting thing is the murals around, they have assorted DC characters, superman, aquaman, batman and co having beer, wonderwoman is on the wall too. There is a photowall with white wings that I see girls use, they think they are all Victoria's Secret but I bet those are chicken wings lol. Oh, the funny part is that there are big LCD screens all around playing an endless barrage of K Pop videos (not what is piped in the restaurant, although you can imagine every 5th song is Gangnam style I kid you not), there is something about watching K Pop vixens gyrating in unison. Just for that, I space out in Chicken and Beer.
